Product Feature: Kill A Watt
The Kill A Watt is a device that shines a light on exactly how much energy it takes to use your electrical appliances. It is an especially good weapon to combat those pesky nickels and dimes that get sucked away by vampire power.
Simply plug the Kill A Watt into a standard wall outlet and then plug your appliance into the Kill A Watt. Its LCD screen display will show the amounts of watts the appliance is pulling. To see the phantom power, turn off the device, and the Kill A Watt will continue to monitor its usage.
With a standard flat rate electricity pricing plan you can predict the cost of the appliance over the course of your billing cycle. Of course, Power Smart Pricing makes this calculation a little trickier, but you will still be able to see its relative cost burden.
You will be able to determine exactly why you should make sure that new big HD Plasma TV should be turned off, or why your kids needs to unplug their cell phone chargers. The Kill A Watt will run you about $15, but I guarantee that you will easily save that much on your bills. A little bit of knowledge can go a long way. To save on costs you can even get one to share between you and your neighbors.

I used this to check out stuff around the house, and the thing that really shocked me was Christmas tree lights - wow.
I have heard of some cities that purchased these type of meters and then loaned them out via the public library. It is a great idea, because it is something you want to use every once in a while, but don't necessarily need to own.
I've had one for a couple of years now and I've found it to be a very useful tool. I think it's a good thing to own because we're always getting new gadgets and gee-gaws that have an electrical cord attached to them. This product, in conjuction with several smart strips (and a couple regular power strips) have definitely helped me cut down on phantom loads.
Does this just tell me how many kill-a-watts I've used or does it tell me how much they cost? I just saw this Kill-a-watt EZ and it says that it says I can plug in the price. Any thoughts?
You can input a price for electricity with the Kill A Watt EZ but it won't change with the prices like you have with Power Smart Pricing. You can only manually enter one price. The device won't show how much you have used total, it only shows what you are currently using. Which is still helpful, but it wont keep track of past usage.
